Lefkada has a few museums that are definitely worth visiting. On a cloudy or rainy day get the bus or rent a car and go to the city of Lefkada to visit these museums.
The argaeological museum is located in Faneromeni street in Lefkas town. The museum has finds from the early bronze age like ceramics,jewelery and gems of ancient tombs.
There is a seperate hall with finds (votive offerings,vases and Mycenean remains) from the excavations done by Wilhelm Dorpfeld. This German archaeologist assisted Heinrich Schliemann with his excavations looking for ancient Troy.
Dorpfeld believed that Lefkada is indeed homer's Ithaki and Nydri the place where Odysseus's palace is located.Based on his finds, this was Dorpfeld's interpretation of the epic poem the Odyssey. He died on 25 April 1940 in Lefkada and he is buriedon the peak of the hill at the edge of the Vlicho peninsula.

In the town of Lefkada near the church of Agios Spiridon we find the museum of the music association Orfeus. This museum was founded in 1937 and displays a representation of a traditional Lefkadian room with a collection of items from every day life like tools, textiles, looms and dresses.

This small museum is realy worth a visit and is located near the main square of Lefkas town. A private collector founded the museum in 1980 with a collection of old phonographs. Now you can also see other old instruments and old postcards, guns,coins and jewelery.

In the mountain village of Karia we find the cultural museum of Maria Koutsohero. This is a small private museum with works from Maria Koutsohero. You can see the unique needle works known as "Karsaniki velonia" known only by the woman of Karia. Unfortunately the younger woman are not so interested in this needle work anymore and this art is likely to dissapear.
