"What you must know before you book a car"

 

Booking your Lefkas care hire with the help of our Lefkada travel guide. Whether you book a car online or locally you will have to pay a deposit. Every rental company will ask for a valid credit card at the time of booking.

In Greece some car hire companies will ask you to pay also the percentage the bank charges for the transaction.

Some car hire companies in Greece do not accept a debit card as a security at the time of booking but only credit cards. They may accept a debit card or cash at the time of payment.

To rent a car in Lefkada Greece you must be at least 21 years old and have your driver’s license for one year or more. Some companies charge extra for drivers under 25 years of age. There may even be a maximum age of 70-75 years of age.

Always read the terms and conditions before you sign your Lefkas car hire contract.
Beware of extra charges like:

• Extra kilometers
• Taxes
• Car delivery
• Road assistance

 It is a good idea to keep the contract in the car in case the police stop you. It proves you rented the car and that it is not stolen.

Lefkas car hire insurance

The majority of car rental companies include in the car price, fire insurance and insurance for injuries or damages to persons or things outside the vehicle.

Not included are insurance for personal injuries to driver or passengers. Optional coverage may be offered for an additional fee. You should also ask if the insurance does provide coverage for damage to windows, tires, roof, underside, or interior of the vehicle.

I recommend you get a car hire insurance that has you completely covered for an amount of about 2 pound a day. That saves you from any unpleasant surprises.

Cancelations

Various web sites offer great car rental deals online but require a full payment at the time of booking. Be careful to check their cancelation policies because some of these bookings are un-refundable.

If they have a cancelation policy check how much notice you have in case you need to cancel and if they are charging any cancelation fees. If you fail to notify the company of your cancellation and are considered a "no show", they may charge you a fee of 100% of the rental.

 

Accidents

In the unfortunate event of an accident call your Lefkas car hire company right away. They will tell you exactly what to do and if necessary send someone to replace the car.

Ask the people of the rental company if they can inform the police because all accidents have to be reported. Do not move the car until the police says you can do so. You will also have to fill in a report about the accident so the car company can claim from their insurance. Get yourself a copy of this report in case you may have to claim from your own travel insurance.

Additional drivers

The person renting the car is supposed to be the driver of the vehicle. That is the person that signed the contract and provided his credit card and driver’s license.

If anything happens to the rented car while someone else drives the car the insurance will not cover the damages. If you are going to travel long distances and want someone else to be able to drive as well some companies will charge extra for additional drivers. Additional drivers should be mentioned in the contract. Ask upfront about the additional driver’s policy. There are also Lefkas car hire companies who will offer this for free.

 

Fuel.

When you rent the car you usually get it with a full tank. In this case you are supposed to return the car with the same level of fuel. If you bring it back empty you may be charged for refueling the car.

 

Extra days

If you want to keep your rental car for a few more days, remember that the day price may be more than for the agreed period. You may have had a special deal for a week but they may charge the normal price for the two extra days.
