At a distance of 5 km from Lefkas town we reach the village Ligia. The long coastal road passes through the middle of the village. Ligia has a small fishing harbour with a few fish restaurants. In the summer they serve fresh fish every day. Click here for accommodation in Ligia.

Following the coastal road the next village is Nikiana. Nikiana also has his little harbour and restaurants. Nikiana is very busy in the summer months. There is a huge choice of accommodation but not so many shops and restaurants.

Nikiana is a favourite of the Greek tourists. Because they all come with their own car they don't mind the lack of shops and restaurants.
In the mountains at a distance of 5 km from Indiana you can find the monastery of Agios Pateres. This centuries old monastery is build in a cave and is well worth visiting.
Next at a distance of about 15km from the town of Lefkada we find Perigiali. A lovely fishing village and sea side resort. The village is build on a slope giving all the apartments and hotels fantastic views of the Ionian and the island of Scorpios, Sparti and Heloni.

There is one mini market and a friendly kafenio ( coffee shop) in the small village. The nearest shops are at a walking distance in the village of Nidri.
Perigiali has his own beach called Passa a favorite of the locals because of its crystal clear waters.
Nidri is for many years considered as the main tourist resort of lefkada. There is so much choice in Nidri accommodation, from rooms for rent, Studios, apartments to luxury hotels.
Nidri also has a huge choice of good tavernas, some waterfront, others on the pretty village main road, offering the hungry holidaymaker a fabulous array of food and drink. The locals are very friendly here and there are lots of shops, tavernas and bars, and a beautiful church, making this a charming village and a pleasure to stay in.
There are many companies that offer car hire in Nidri. But if you want a car for the whole holiday it's a good idea to book in advance with nationally recognised company.
Just past Nidri on the edge of Vliho bay we get to the village of Vlicho. A small village that is also the base for Sail Ionian Yacht Charter company. Vlicho has a big boatyard for repairs and also a chandlery shop. There is a yacht club where boat people can shower and do their laundry. In Vlicho you can also find the local police station.
Many hotels and apartments can be found on the other side if the bay in Geni.
The small harbour of Sivota lies in a beautiful bay in the south of Lefkas. The entrance of Sivota bay is also the finishing line of the yearly Ionian Regatta that is held on the third Thursday of September. For more information on entry in the Regatta contact the vlicho yachtclub.
Sivota is a traditional fishing village with many fish tavernas offering excellent seafood. If you love fresh lobster you have to visit Sivota while you are on your holidays in Lefkada. View villas in Sivota.
The idyllic Greek vilage Vassiliki is well known for many watersport activities and extremely popular with wind surfers.
Vassiliki lies on the south coast of Lefkada island. Vassiliki is considered the second tourist resort after Nidri.
The harbour is quit busy with the ferries to Kefalonia and Ithaka coming and going and the many yachts that dock there.
Surrounding Vassiliki is a large flat area that is ideal for biking and horse riding. Just outside of Vassiliki there is a riding school run by Sabine and Kyriakos Spanidis. Here you can enjoy a few days horse riding or taking riding lessons.

At a distance of 14 km form Lefkas town, situated on the beautiful west coast of Lefkada is the picturesque village Agios Nikitas. Actually this is the only village on the west coast situated so near to the sea. It is surrounded by steep cliffs covered with pine trees.
Agios Nikitas has its own beautiful beach but the fantastic beaches of Pefkoulia and Kathisma are only a 5 minutes drive away.
In and around the village you find quit a few hotels, studios and apartments.
In the road that runs through the village down to the sea there are quit a few bars, tavernas and supermarkets. The local tavernas serve mostly traditional Greek dishes and fresh fish food.
Evergreen cypress, olive and elm trees, green fields and flowers are characteristics of the lower land while higher up the slopes are covered in pine trees.
The people of Lefkada used to build their villages so they would not be visible from the sea. The villages were hidden in the mountains to protect the people of Lefkada from regular pirate raids.
Karia is one of the largest villages on Lefkas. Below the village is a large flat area that is very fertile and is used by the locals to grow wheat, orchards and vines.
The village of Karia despite tourism remaines a traditional Greek village. You can see older woman in traditional Lefkadian dress embroider linen textiles with unusual motifs that are unique in Greece.
This art of embroidery got its name from this village; Karsaniki Velonia.
There is a privately run folk museum. Here you can see how the mountain people of Lefkas used to live.
Every year on the 11th of August a revival of a traditional Greek wedding is celebrated. An event that always attracts many tourist.

Vafkeri lies about 8 km from the east coast and used to be one of the main villages of Lefkada. Unfortunately most of the traditional stone houses are deserted and others have been renovated and are used as holiday homes. After the first world war most of the people of Vafkeri moved to Nidri to find a better way of living.
Vafkeri used to be wel known for its red wine and you can still see lots of old vine yards.
If you visit vafkeri it seems time stands stil. Sitting outside the taverna at the quiet village square all you can hear are the Cicadas (locusts) with their remarkable acoustic talents. Vafkeri is a peaceful holiday destination for your summer holidays in Lefkada.
In Vafkeri their are a few luxury villas with fantastic views of Nydri and Scorpios island. Villa Nousia is a very popular villa complex that that you have to book very early in the year.

Poros is a mountain village about 25 km south of Lefkada town and has about 300 inhabitants.
The church of Analipsi in Poros is worth a visit with its beautiful wall paitings and icons of the 16th century.
At about 800 meters above Poros are the remains of an old tower and a ancient olive press. The argaeologist Dörpfeld believed they date to the 4th century BC.
